All-action midfielder born in Whitechapel, London who started his career as a trainee at Gillingham before joining Gravesend & Northfleet.
Jay moved to Margate for the start of the 1998/99 season and went on to become a vital part of the squad that won promotion to the Conference.
After making over 250 appearances for Margate Jay left the club at the end of the 2003/04 campaign and rejoined Gravesend & Northfleet. The ‘Fleet released him in May 2006 as part of their clear out of part-time players and Jay subsequently signed for Lewes.
In September 2006 he was transfer-listed by the Conference South outfit and made a popular return to Hartsdown Park, joining Margate on a month’s loan. Before the month was over Jay was signed on a permanent basis and stayed for the 2007-08 campaign before joining Maidstone United for the start of last season after 46 goals in 340 appearances for Margate.
Became new manager Iain O'Connell's first signing in February.
