Mark took over the reigns at Margate in late October after several successful seasons with Ryman Premier Division rivals Ashford Town (MX).
His playing career started with local sides Tongham and Ash United before moving up the non-league ladder to join Egham Town in the summer of 1986. In March 1989 he joined Conference side Wycombe Wanderers for a fee of £4,200 and was part of the Wycombe side that reached the FA Trophy Quarter-Finals (where they lost to Hyde United) in 1988-89 before joining Chesham United in October 1989 for £5,000.
He returned to Egham in the summer of 1990 for £3,000 and ended the season as the club's top scorer with 37 goals. The following season, he scored a club-record 50 goals before he made the move to the newly-formed Aldershot Town and became the clubs first goal scorer as he notched two and ended the season being voted as the 'Player of the Year'.
After a spell in the South Australia Premier Division for Modbury he returned to be the Shots' top scorer in 1994-95 and 1995-96.
In August 1997, Mark got his first taste of what management was like when he was part of a Caretaker Management ream at the Rec (along with Andy Meyer and Joe Roach) following the departure of Steve Wigley.
His final contribution to the club's rise was scoring 13 goals in the 1997-98 season that saw the club win the Isthmian League Division 1 title. Having played 303 games and having scored a club-record 155 goals, Mark moved on to Staines Town in June 1998 and proceeded to be the club's top scorer for the next four seasons, which included scoring 14 goals in 1998-99 and 22 in 1999-2000.
In 2002, he took over as Caretaker-Manager at Staines for the last seven games of the season following the resignation of Ken Ballard. Having failed to get the job on a permanent basis, his next move was to become Player-Assistant Manager to Nathan Wharf at Ashford Town (Middlesex) in June 2004 and he made the step up to Player-Manager at Short Lane in December 2004 following Wharf's resignation.
Under his stewardship, the club progressed well, being beaten in the 2004-05 Southern League play-offs by Evesham United, although getting to that stage was a momentous feat in itself. Mark retired from playing that summer to concentrate on his managerial duties and in 2005-06, he led the club to the runners-up spot behind Clevedon Town in the Southern League Division 1 West, thus securing promotion to the Isthmian League Premier Division for the first time in the club's history. In 2006-07, he led them to the FA Trophy 1st Round (where they lost to Braintree Town) for the first time in their history and to victory in the Isthmian League Cup Final by beating Dover Athletic.
Mark continued his excellent work at Short Lane in 2007-08 as he led the club to a fantastic 6th place finish in the Isthmian League Premier Division, missing the play-offs by just one place and two points.
Resigned in February after 12 games in charge.
